Bettina Fung | PanicAct
Artist Bettina Fung | 馮允珊 (bettinafung.com/) practices performative drawing in live settings, mostly at exhibitions and festivals, usually for periods between 4-6 hours nonstop. Her work is informed by automatic drawing allowing the unconscious mind to surface through what appears to be aimless and purposeless drawing.
The long duration transforms the performance into a meditation/ritual much like a shaman dancing and singing to the same beat for hours to create a state of trance.
Performed and Filmed at Apiary Studios, London on the 7th November 2014 for Modern Panic V Exhibition.
The Wave-Particle Duality Paradox is both a foundational rock of Quantum Mechanics and a conundrum to the greatest minds of our time. QM postulates, as verified by experiments, that all matter is sometimes particle and sometimes wave. Unobserved, light behaves like waves. Observed it behaves as particles, matter. This has a profound effect on our understanding of reality, or rather our lack of. Does the moon only exist when we look at it?
While visiting the Lumiere Festival 2016 in London, I was inspired by the reflection of the light installations on the canal waves. Shooting out of focus, bookehs appear like particles dancing on the waves. The water thus acts like a mirror that reveals the duality of reality.
A short collection of timelapses filmed around my neighbourhood in London.
